  • Single or a blend of the products can be used to get the desired wettability and suspensibility.
  • Each of these chemicals is designed to give the Wetting and dispersing powder (WDP) formulations functional properties in pesticide spreading system.
WETTABLE POWDERS ARE USED IN PESTICIDE FORMULATIONS TO:
Stabilise the formulation
Maintains even dispersion
Improves wetting, adhesion and penetration
Have an effective working even at low concentration

FEATURES OF TYTAN WETTING AND DISPERSING PRODUCTS:
Low foam
Low c.m.c. Value of products that leads to a low dosages in order to get desired wettability and suspensibility
Anionic based wetting and dispersing agents
It has excellent stability in hard water
Multiple system options can be chosen to get a broader range of effective ratio
Provides Workability for a broader range of pesticide WDP formulations like Isoproturon, Sulphur, Carbendezim, Atrazin, Lindane, DDT, Malathion, Acephate, Metribuzin, Metalaxyl, etc.

TOPL also offers technical support for working on application development for pesticide formulations. TOPL has a basic research laboratory facilities with modern instruments and highly skilled technical support team to provide technical assistance.

Based on our experience of formulating pesticide wettable powders, this brochure describes how TOPL products can be used to improve pesticide WDP formulations and performance.

WETTABLE POWDER:

WDP powders of pesticides are designed to form a suspension when it is added to water. WDP is a complex blend formulation of various heterogeneous ingredients like:
Pesticide technical
Wetting and dispersing agent
Inert fillers
Other additives like stabilisers, thickeners, etc.

WDP's should have an average particle size much below 75 microns. This can be achieved by milling of various components. These components must have high melting point to avoid melting during milling and storage.

DISPERSION:

When particles in suspension come close to each other, their mutual attraction overcomes any repulsive forces, recombination occurs and the particles stick together either by flocculation or by high agglomeration.

Dispersants act by two-mechanisms viz., electrostatic and steric stabilisation. It adsorbs on the particle surface creating a barrier between particles thus reducing particle-to-particle interaction.

TOPL has a comprehensive range of dispersants based on different polymer size that helps to create a physical barrier between the particles to produce an electrostatic stabilisation to the system.

TOPL's dispersants are added to increase the charge on the particles. This increases the net negative charge on the particle surface creating repulsion and stabilising the dispersion. Hence TOPL's anionic dispersant are framed to disperse the system by electrostatic repulsion.

FORMULATION OF WETTABLE POWDER:

FORMULA:
 Active Ingredient : X %
 Wetting agent : Y %
 Dispersing agent : Z %
Inert Filler : Make it to 100 %

PROCESS :

The technical should either be pre-milled or adsorbed on carrier, then the other ingredients shall also be mixed thoroughly. Preparation of wetting and dispersing agents are altered to optimise the formulation for a wetting, suspensibility and other properties. The whole mixture is then grounded in an Air Compressed Mill (ACM) or Air Jet Mill (AJM).

When developing a pesticide WDP formulation TOPL's wetting / dispersing agents are the best combination due to its various individual properties.

PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING WETTABLE POWDERS :

STEP PROCESS NOTE
1. Total Batch time 2 hrs. Varies with the type of equipment used like AJM and ACM.
2. Pre-blending The weighed ingredients are mixed thoroughly for minimum 30 minutes in ribbon blender to get a homogeneous powder. Ribbon blender is normally used for blending purpose due to its cutting and shearing properties.
3. Milling The pre-blended material is transferred to the milling chamber through hopper in which the milling plates run with the speed of 3000 rpm in opposite direction. The milling process is normally done in ACM or AJM.
4. Post-blending The milled powder is passed through 325 mesh that are collected in the post-blender through dust collector. The material is again homogenised thoroughly to get evenly formulated material. The material again blended in ribbon blender.
5. Discharging Discharging of the finished material from the blender is carried out manually. Material is unloaded into the bags and weighed.
6. Testing Finished material is sent to Q.C. for testing of wettability and suspensibility as per standard ISI specifications or customer's own specifications. Sample is drawn randomly from various bags.
7. Q.C. requirements
(For e.g.; In case of isoproturon)
Wettability = < 120 seconds

Suspensibility = 85% min.
Wettability and suspensibility differ with difference in "active ingredients" and the percentage WDP formulation.
